Throughout 2022, Connecticut has begun taking steps to implement the state's 2021 "Right to Read" legislation, which systematizes a statewide reading response—based on the Science of Reading.
In September 2022, the Center for Literacy Research and Reading Success published a list of state-approved early literacy curricula. Districts will be required to implement a program from among this list in the 2023-24 school year.
This document recaps the legislative process that resulted in these requirements, provides an update on the state's progress in implementing "Right to Read", and identifies a timeline of next key action steps, in accordance with the legislation.
