The Right to Read

Updated: Apr 30, 2021

Connecticut students are facing an education and literacy crisis that has been

exacerbated by the pandemic.

A student's ability to read is:

  • The foundation of all other learning;

  • A predictor of dropout rates, poverty, and incarceration; and

  • A significant pillar of workforce preparedness.

However, nearly half of CT 3rd graders aren't meeting grade-level expectations in reading, and there are also wide disparities by race. We must do better.

The good news is that we already have a solution: a homegrown model, based on the science of reading, that's ready to be scaled statewide.
