Coalition to Host ‘Right to Read’ Virtual Forum on Literacy Connecticut Elected Officials Join National Advocacy Leader for Panel Discussion
What: On Thursday January 28, Education Reform Now CT—in partnership with the coalition, Right to Read CT—will participate in a virtual forum called, “A Literacy Initiative for Equity”. The forum will be hosted on the Facebook page of our coalition partner, the Connecticut Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity (CWCSEO). Panelists will discuss how we can significantly improve literacy instruction in our state at a time when, pre-pandemic, only about half (53%) of Connecticut’s 3rd graders were meeting or exceeding reading expectations.
This forum will also mark the kick-off of a legislative effort to better prepare Connecticut educators and students, based on the Science of Reading. Connecticut students are facing unprecedented academic challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, and inequity is on the rise for students most in need. The proposed legislation for consideration by Connecticut’s General Assembly will meet this moment by setting students up for success when they return to classrooms full-time, using research-based literacy instruction in every school, and for every child. The Right to Read CT coalition has been established to raise awareness and build support for this critical agenda, to learn more about this work and our partners please visit the website, https://www.RightToReadCT.org.
Join us and our panel of elected officials and civic leaders as we discuss why all Connecticut students have a Right to Read.
